Romantic Comedies To Watch If You’re Alone This Valentine’s Day

It’s that time of year again. Don’t you just love it when Valentine’s Day rolls around and the commercialised world gives you a tap on the shoulder and says, “Oh you’re still single? You’re still all alone?

Well, do you know what? I like being alone. I’m very good at it and don’t particularly like change. If I want to experience emotions, I’ll read a book or watch a movie – which brings me to this post…

If you’re perpetually lonely and want to live out someone else’s dream romance story without feeling too pathetic, here are a list of top tier rom-coms to bring the love to your V-Day!

10 Things I Hate About You

I’m a sucker for a good Taming Of The Shew adaptation, especially one starring Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger. This is one of those films that I could watch over and over, and never get sick of. In my opinion, this is one of the best films produced in the 90’s and nothing will ever live up to it.

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again

This is one of the only sequels that I think is better than the original film. It might just be a cold February day where you are, but if you let ABBA take you away to a gorgeous Greek island for a few hours then I promise you’ll feel infinitely better.

Wild Child

This is one of my comfort movies, and for good reason. Wild Child ticks all the boxes – you’ve got a spoilt American dropped into a British boarding school, peak English comedy, and the absolute perfect casting. It’s definitely a great option if you’re looking for more of a Galentine’s Day film, or one where the plot doesn’t entirely revolve around romance.

The Holiday

I know this is technically a Christmas film, and as much as I always watch it in the run up to the Christmas season, it’s honestly not all that festive. Yes, it’s snowy. Yes, there’s a Christmas party. But that’s about it in terms of festivity. This is such a good rom-com that you should watch it all year round, starting with Valentine’s Day.

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

Is there a better plot than one where fake dates fall for each other? Absolutely not. This film is wholesome, adorable, and hilarious. However – I highly recommend that you read the book series first as you will enjoy it so much more when you have a deeper understanding of the characters.

27 Dresses

This is a firm favourite of mine, and absolutely hilarious. I’m so excited that it’s now on Disney+ so that I can watch it whenever I want, as previously I only ever saw it when it was on television. It’s definitely worth watching, if just to see some absolutely hideous bridesmaid dresses!

Bride Wars

I’m not sure whether this actually fits on the list in terms of being romantic, but it’s an absolutely hilarious movie with an incredible soundtrack. Not to mention Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway in the same film. Definitely the perfect movie to celebrate Galentine’s Day and to remind yourself to put fries before guys, hoes over bros, and all that type of crap.

Let me know in the comments if you’ve seen any of these and which were your favourites! I’m always looking for new films to watch, so drop any that you think I’d like too.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Amie x
