Strictly Come Dancing Thoughts: Week Two

After the news of another national lockdown, I think we all needed a good dose of Strictly Come Dancing to brighten up our Saturday night. As long as Strictly stays on our screens, I’m pretty sure that the nation can survive anything.

As always, here comes the disclaimer that I am absolutely not a dancer. I have zero technical knowledge, but I just love the show and apparently enjoy giving my opinions when no one has asked for them.

Max George and Dianne Buswell

I felt like this didn’t have the same amount of bounce that jives should, so I was disappointed with that as I had high hopes for this dance. We do have to remember that we’re still only in week two though, and from that perspective this was a good dance, and they were incredibly synchronised.

Clara Amfo and Aljaž Škorjanec

I was so stressed during this entire dance that Clara’s heel was going to get caught in the ripped piece of skirt, but thankfully it didn’t! Considering there was no full blown Halloween week this series, I love how the theme of this dance managed to bring us at least a taste of the spooky ballroom. I really enjoyed the dance overall.

Bill Bailey and Oti Mabuse

I have a lot of questions about this, but what the hell was with the CGI animals? There was literally no point to them, they looked wildly unrealistic, and honestly it just made the entire thing seem kind of ridiculous. I was pretty surprised by the positivity of the judges comments because from me perspective he just does not look natural when he dances and that makes it far less enjoyable to watch.

JJ Chalmers and Amy Dowden

I’m pretty sure he lost his footing at the beginning of the routine, but other than that I thought this was a pretty good Paso for week two. Once again I’m entirely obsessed with Amy’s outfit.

Jamie Laing and Karen Hauer

Since the launch show I’ve thought that Jamie reminded me of someone, and this week I finally realised it was Judge Rinder! I was distracted by that revelation, but I thought that it was an alright dance. Nothing special but not horrific!

Maisie Smith and Gorka Marquez

I’m pretty sure Maisie is just living out everyone’s dream on this show. This tango was so good, so dramatic, and I loved how it brought all the Halloween vibes too. Especially when you remember that we’re still only in the second week, I really thought that this was brilliant.

Jacqui Smith and Anton Du Beke

Oh good lord, this was so bad. I personally felt that I was watching an inebriated grandmother on a wedding dance floor. And was I the only one that thought she almost looked like she was galloping rather than dancing…?

HRVY and Janette Manrara

I really enjoyed watching this dance, and it was so good for week two. This couple will definitely make it to the final, just putting that out into the world now. Also fully obsessed with Janette’s dress!

Ranvir Singh and Giovanni Pernice

This was an enjoyable dance to watch, but nothing special. I did really like the stage design with all the sunflowers, but I thought that Ranvir’s dress was extremely casual for the show.

Dance: 6/10

Nicola Adams and Katya Jones

I tend not to be a massive fan of the Couples Choice dances purely because I don’t vibe with the more contemporary and abstract style. For what it was, though, I think that this was good. A lot of people were talking about the storyline of the dance, I didn’t see any sort of storyline but that could just be because I have no imagination.

Dance: 5/10

Outfits: 6/10

Song: 7/10

Caroline Quentin and Johannes Radebe

This definitely wasn’t the most dramatic Paso that I’ve seen on the show, and I was kind of distracted by Caroline’s dress which I think could have been a lot more flattering and muted in the colours. It was an okay dance but I wasn’t massively impressed.

Dance: 5/10

Outfits: 2/10

Song: 8/10

Jason Bell and Luba Mushtuk

These outfits are brighter than my future, but I don’t dislike the neon! I feel like there wasn’t enough shake in the dance, that’s definitely not a technical term or the best way of describing it, but I hope you kind of get what I mean. Although he was moving around the dance floor and doing the steps, he didn’t seem to actually be moving his body.

Dance Off Predictions

Going off the scores I would have given, the couples I would ideally like to see in the dance off would be Jacqui & Anton and Bill & Oti. As long as Jacqui is eliminated, I think I’d be pretty okay with anyone else being in the dance off.

If you watched last nights show, let me know what you thought and who you think will be voted off in the comments. Don’t forget you can follow me on Instagram too.

Love,

Amie
